it's just 2 100% beef patties, 3 slices of bread, 2slices cheese, thousand island sauce, and lettuce.

so why so much calories?

Its the special sauce & the cheese ... not sure exactly how much but the sauce is mostly mayo.

Plus the burgers are roughly 8g's fat each too.

Sauce is vicious stuff, it's mostly oil so it's really high in calories. If you ever want to turn an burger sandwich into a healthy meal ordering it without sauce is the most important thing you can do.

The patties are all-beef, but they're cheap because they're mostly fat.

The special sauce is mostly mayo (fat)

The patties are deep-fried in fat

You're getting TWO patties

Cheese = lots of fat, and that's two slices you've got there

Add the fact that you've got three slices of bread, and bread is full of calories (not that that's a bad thing)

I find it surprising that you're surprised! Don't eat too many Big Macs (I dislike the taste, McDonalds burgers just taste bad for some reason; I can't explain it, I know Wendy's burgers are made the same way but they just taste a lot better)

Chipotle is worse in terms of sheer calories, but depending on how you customize it, most of the calories aren't from any bad fats.

Mostly due to the fat.

Remember............

Fat = 9 calories/gram

Carbs = 4 calories/gram

Protein = 4 calories/gram

So when you go uber-high fatty.........you *more than* double calories.

Vulva = 0 calories :p (Sorry, tasteless joke from the garage forum) :laugh:

Read your own post one more time.

3 silices of bread 100 calories
Special Sauce 75-100 calories
cheese about 60-75 calories per slice.
Two 1.6 oz slices of meat about 100-130 calories each.

And lettuce has too few to count.

In n' Out FTW!

Carl's Jr. and BK a distant second. McDonald's is stuck between dog s**t and Rosie O'Donnell.

540 calories is not all that caloric if that's all you eat for lunch. I mean we need 2000 calories or so per day. The main problem is that it's not all that nutritious of a meal, I mean you get your proteins, carbs and fats, but not really the good kinds of either. The other issue is that people also get fries and soda, which adds a lot more calories that are even less useful, essentially refined carbs which when not used for energy immediately get stored into fat and are also responsible for a lot of pathologies.

I love the Big Mac. I order 2, plus an extra large coke and extra large fries to go. I'll add a bunch of ketchup and barbecue sauce also. MMM MMM good.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought I remembered seeing a Wendy's commercial recently and hearing some comment about "never frozen all beef patties"...or was that some other chain? In any case, I think Wendy's is WAY better than Mac & Don's steakhouse

Are you sure about that? Frying them on a grill isn't deep frying.
