Why is the Barton more popular than the 2100+ to OC?

So, I just switched to AMD from Intel and went 2100+. Why is everyone going the 2500+ Barton if the 2100+ is about guaranteed to hit 2.3-2.4 GHz? Can you OC that comparably, better, etc?

I see very few people buying the 2500+ compared to the 2100+ 😕 even with the reduced price most results with the Barton are less than spectacular in comparison to the 2100+ on a price/performance scale....

Ah, okay, so it's the weenie way out of OC'ing. 😉 You're bascically buying the gaurantee that you'll do better than 2100+ but less than 2100+ OC'd, and then you can tweak it as you want. How high do the Bartons get? So, the 2500 is 11x166=1.83. How high can they go? Overclockers.com makes me think it's around 2.1-2.2 GHz.

I was the same way and figured why not go for the faster cpu. I screwed up last year this way and went with a p4 1.8ghz instead of the awsome 1.4 palaminos. Well my Intel mb sucked and an upgrade was not possible. Not to mention it had rdram. Well this year i decided to follow the recommendations of the people on the forum and got myself
8rda+
2100+
512pc3000 all under $300 and man 2700+ out of the box it awsome.

2100+'s are awsome chips and in all seriousness, are you gonna see a difference in everyday where and tear? People who go faster and waste money are idiots (personal opinion). Why spend all that cash when that extra money could go toward ram,hd, etc. I spent the extra cah i had since i went 2100 on a light, window, nice vid card. Technology is always changing so since i spend very little i can afford an upgrade nbext year

My friend, a mac user (who has "seen the light"), bought this on the advice of another of his friends. Perhaps the other guy doesn't OC (he's also hundreds of miles away, so maybe he didn't want to remotely help OC, which I would understand). No biggie, though, my friend will be quite pleased actually being able to play current computer games 🙂

well i'm glad you think that people like me are idiots...

you say i can spend it on ram, hd, etc?

what if you have good ram, a good hard drive... all the good parts you need?

i enjoy buying processors and testing them out to see how far i can push them...

also... if you have the money to spend, might as well spend it as well...

btw... in your rig thing, you have a 1.73 ghz processor running at 2.17 ghz

it's misleading to say you have a 2100 mhz processor running at 2700 mhz

cuz according to your way of reporting processors, i have a 1700 mhz processor running at 3200 mhz

yeah, WTF is that all about? makes it look like you're a n00b or idiot who can't distinguish between MHZ and PR rating 😉

With an ASUS A7N8X rev 1.04 running the 1003 BIOS and a week 8 Barton (2500+) I got 180x12.5 (2250MHz). This is with a Vantec Aeroflow C7040 cooler, the thermal compound that came with it and no fancy case cooling. Serious clockers with SLK900's and such should get over 2300. People who complain about poor overclockability (how's that for a word) are usually running FSB at 200 or more. I only have PC2700 memory and it peaked at 180. My CPU temp at load (a few hours of prime95) was 47 degrees celcius and I had vcore at 1,700, vdim at 2,7.
