Why is the backseat of the Mercedes CL so small?

Edmunds lists there as being 30 inches of rear legroom, with a 113 inch wheelbase, which is comparable to a Chrysler 300 which has over 10 inches more room in the rear seat. A tiny Hyundai Tiburon has as much rear leg room back there with a wheel base over a foot shorter.

Also the CLK has a wheel base that's 7 inches shorter but offers 3 more inches of leg room. Where does the space go in the CL?

because it's a coupe, and i think they put ther backseats there for it to qualify for cheaper insurance or something along the line like that. same thing with the lexus SC430. you can't fit someone there even if you chop his legs off.

I don't think someone purchasing a $100k+ car is too worried about insurance..but in the case of the SC430 the wheelbase is a lot shorter..what I'm wondering is how the CL can have such a long wheelbase but so little room in the back.

because you're not supposed to transport people in teh backseat

the only people that sit in the back are the not so rich people who dont need the leg room rich people do. Or if your bringing your pet dwarf, its a great size.
