Why is the Atlantic Ocean green?

The Jersey shore to be exact

why isn't it a pretty clear blue like the pacific and down around florida and the bahamas?

Part of the reason is the different color sand... brown instead of white. The other part(s) you probably don't really want to know about. ;)

out in the ocean its green too. i doubt pollution is causing the dark green color. i was thinking more along the lines of plant life. do any of you have any sources? i suck at teh google
