Why is the Atlantic Ocean green?

why isn't it a pretty clear blue like the pacific and down around florida and the bahamas?

Part of the reason is the different color sand... brown instead of white. The other part(s) you probably don't really want to know about.

out in the ocean its green too. i doubt pollution is causing the dark green color. i was thinking more along the lines of plant life. do any of you have any sources? i suck at teh google

Those are a coupla older ones...

Sorry, forgot to add: In the summer the increase in light and heat cause algae blooms wherever there is enough nitrogen for the algae to eat... And virtually all instustrialized areas dump massive quantities of nitrogen and other organic compounds into the ocean.
