Because it has varied types of gameplay and excellent replay value and is very fun online.

It is one of the most balanced rts games out there if not the most.

All variables in the game affect what to do not to do such as expanding.. mining.. geographical areas blah blah

At first I loved the 1v1's & playing over Battle.net but I quickly got over that. Now I like playing the occasional 4v4 on LAN with buddies... that's the most fun, especially when moneys involved. Teams are pretty even usually.
