why is shoutcast always broken up for me?

I've tried shoutcast (listening with winamp) in the past but it always was broken up (pauses to buffer ever 20secs or so) with ever station I tried, so I gave up

I've gotten pretty interested in listening to internet radio lately though, but it's still broken up on every station. normally I try to listen to 96 or 128k streams, but I'e tried 56k ones too and they don't break up as badly but they do it a little too. even 128k is well, well within my limit though - a few different web-based speed tests I've tried all report around 600kbps for me.

yeah...but it would have to have some serious gaps in transmission @ 600kbps to affect a stream @ 128kbps

I don't think that's the case because when I download something, I don't see huge drops in it's calculated speed and I think I would if it were big enough to affect the 128kbps stream

your download speed at a test site does not mean that it is your connection speed to the streaming server.

your ISP/connection probably suck.

Yea I have a 5mbit connection and I can't always stream every station.

I have trouble when my upload is maxed, and if the server has a crappy connection (lots of people try to run stations from their home internet lines), or if theres bad routing between me and teh serber.

bash.org is good 192kbit trance
tranceairwaves 160kbit
basicbeats 160kbit
ets global 160kbit

You can also go into Winamp options and increase the buffer size, so in theory, you'd download a lot initially and that buffer will tide you over when your connection goes bad until it is able to fill up the buffer again.

It worked for me when my connection sucked for awhile.
