I just watched the movie with Liam Neeson "kinsey"
cliff notes version "its about the life of the Kinsey who started a lot of sexology research and the obstacles he faced"

It did make me think about how sex is often seen as bad while violence, murder is talked about and published like its ok.

I think a lot of it has to do with history and how religion felt that sex was bad or sinful.
So what are your opinions on why sex is bad or is it bad, versus violence that seems to be ok .

You are correct, it has everything to do with religion. Our country was founded by puritans, and is run by right wing christian conservatives who think a boob is worse than excessive violence.

Good movie.

I would also say that it has just about everything to do with religion.

It depends on what delivery method you're talking about...

Kanye West -- Jesus Walks:
So here go my single dog radio needs this
They say you can rap about anything except for Jesus
That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes
But if I talk about God my record won't get played Huh?

because you can teach your kids that violence is wrong. it's easy to say, "son, don't hit your classmates. it hurts them and we all should never do such a thing".

its harder to say that sex is wrong. after all, it's supposed to be between two people who love each other, it feels good, everyone likes it, etc. are you supposed to say, "son, now i know mommy and daddy do it all the time, but you're too young to enjoy it properly." as adults, we cant set a good example, so its easier to make sex taboo and hope to limit its exposure to minors as much as possible.

The whole concept of sex being bad is so completely f**ked up I don't even know where to begin.

What about nudity? Nudity necessarily does not = sex.

Rape, teenage pregnancy, and STD's aren't exactly "bonuses" in the Sex column.

It's not "bad" per se, but the cause/effect are much harder for children and even teenagers to comprehend the consequences.

Because if you see violence you can choose not to kill someone, but if you see tittay, you can't choose not to pitch a tent. Duh!

Pfft. It's lack of sex in real life that makes you violent. Just look at all the Islamic suicide bombers...

I think it's the lack of video games.

How did I know this would be religions fault? And on a board comprised almost entirely of 16-40 year old men who spend copious amounts of time online, the concensus is that viewing porn is a good thing. Go figure.

Two words: abstinence education

....that probably qualifies as an oxymoron though

I'm not sure what you're inferring. That exposing our children to pornography will cut down on teen pregnancy and STD spreading?

That just teaching them "wait until you are married" is even worse then teaching them nothing at all.

Agreed 100%. I'd even call it irresponsible.

That doesn't mean abstinence doesn't work and isn't realistic. The key is that abstinence can't be viewed as a method of birth control.............it's a lifestyle, and you need to promote it and support it as such.

But this thread is about exposure to pornography. And I think you're going to have to be extremely naiive or malicious to even suggest that pornography doesn't have a cumulative effect on your mind. The next time you fire up a video, as yourself WHY you are. WHAT is it you're getting from watching that and HOW. You, what, like watching another guy do a girl? Why? Keep asking that and see if you don't end up in a pretty scary damn place inside.

I don't really spend copious amounts of time online and i don't believe the consensus is that porn is either good or bad per se.

But the reason why Sex is considered more taboo in YOUR society than violence (it's the opposite in the UK) has to do with evangelical Christianity and nothing else.

Naked titties or a man shot, which would you rather your young kids would see on the TV, there you have your answer.

And it's fucking strange too, since titties are good and violence is bad.
