originally because it was one of the main highways crossing the country, from Chicago to LA, which meant it was the road to a new life for millions of people.
and then there's the song and the tv series.

If it ended in Hollywood, the chief purveyor of our countries' cultural mythology for the past century, it probably would be.

Are you saying Windsor never purveyed any cultural mythology?

Also, it didn't end in Hollywood, it ended in L.A. Granted, there's not much distinction between the two and it's just a technicality, but Rte. 66 ran from Chicago to LA.
Right now Interstate 44 runs next to a lot of old 66.

You got me on Santa Monica. And on I-44. I was thinking I-55 but typed I-44. I-40 runs from St. Louis to LA and I-55 runs from Chicago to St. Louis.Originally posted by: Mathcop
Actually, it ends in Santa Monica, at the Pacific Ocean. Also, I can't speak about the 4 states I did not travel Rt. 66 (Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma) but from somewhere in Oklahoma all the way into California, Interstate 40 runs next to the old Route 66. There are several places where Route 66 is unusable and you have to travel on I-40 during those stretches. I traveled Route 66 / Interstae 40 from Shamrock, Texas to Barstow, California.Originally posted by: Zenmervolt
