Why is Romney considered behind McCain?

Please excuse my ignorance here....

If Romney has won 3 states, and has almost 30 more delegates than McCain, why is McCain considered the front-runner?

Everything I'm reading/hearing says that if McCain wins FL, that he is the clear front runner. But if Romney wins FL, the race is still up in the air.

Is it because of the particular states they are winning, or am I missing something entirely?

Nobody wants a two faced used car salesman who is running to satisfy his ego to win. He's a loser no mater the poll.

the delegates don't really matter right now.

I mean, Florida + Super Tuesday has enough delegates involved that they make everything that's come before it look silly... and Romney's really only won 1 contested competition (Michigan). it's really all about gaining momentum for the winner-take-all super tuesday states.

McCain is leading polling in places like California and Romney's wins in Nevada and Wyoming aren't seen as significant because nobody else competed, and Michigan because his father was a governor there. So Romney's wins have had to do with the individual states rather than any kind of trend in support. If McCain gets Florida he gets a bunch of free media attention and has a good shot at retaining his lead in the major Super Tuesday states.

The topic isn't about obamarama...

That is some of the weakest, least witty sniping I have ever seen on this board, and that says a lot.

I'd vote for Obama before McCain. And damn it all, it's tempting to vote for Clinton before McCain. A Republican party that nominates him can stay the hell out of office.

We have two somewhat conflicting statements in--------

My guess, things will get far nastier as the race progresses. Its hard to get excited over mild insults when the really despicable and how low can one go tasteless insults are yet to come.

Keep a ready supply of barf bags on hand, I suspect we will all need them before long as an armada of Democratic and Republican swift boats are still under construction.

Easy. McCain won South Carolina, now Florida. Thats 2 in a row. That's momentum. Plus national polls have him ahead, as well as big delegate states like NY and CA. And Giuliani is throwing his endorsement to McCain so that's another bunch of voters. Momentum + already in the lead nationally leading into SuperTuesday + rest of above = nearly certain nominee. That said, Romney will not be dropping out till after Feb 5, nor should he. Miracles do happen, and more to Mormons than others in recent centuries.
