Why is RAM so expensive right now?

I bought Crucial 256MB PC133 cas2 SDRAM for $32 plus shipping from buy.com on Dec. 2nd, 2001. I just checked pricewatch and the lowest price for 256MB PC133 SDAM was $70!!! The same RAM I bought sells for $90 at newegg.com... Why is RAM so expensive right now? Some RAM factories in Korea and Taiwan got burnt down?

Anyone know if the prices will go down soon?

Ram isn't expensive. You just bought it when it was cheap. You can consult one of the other 10+ "Why is RAM so expensive?" threads per day for some other explanations/viewpoints...

Because people want it now. It's mostly based on simple supply and demand.

I called upstairs to ask my wifey to check on what I paid to have my Apple //e delivered with 128 kilobytes (That's KILObytes.) vs. the standard 64 kilobytes. She hollered back that it looks like it was a $380 differential. We have it soooooo easy now!

I think ram is at a fairly sweet spot right now. You can get the unbuffered non parity DDR for $69.29 at crucial. Thats for a 256m stick. If it stays around their I will be happy.

I noticed the stick of PC2100 DDR RAM 512 mb I was eyeing on Crucial dropped $20 in the last week....Heres hoping it keeps going down.

<< I remember just a few months back I bought 3 sticks of Crucial PC2100 for $29 each. >>

Bought about 1 GB or RAM about that time, glad I bought then, even though I didn't have a DDR board.

Intels move to DDR and the demand or perhaps even percieved demand it would have explains why PC2100 have gone up. However, what is strange is how SDRAM(PC133s) have gone up significantly during this time also which makes no sense, unless vast people are buying SDRAMs to upgrade their P3s and celerons......yeah right.

I know lots of people that are making the move from Win9x to WinXP and they have to buy RAM because 64 just aren't going to do it. If everyone goes out and buy a stick, you can expect the prices to climb as they have done here. (For cheap RAM, i've bought a Micron PC 133 CAS2 stick for $20,00 at a local store back in october). I wish those prices will go down so I can afford to buy 512 megs of DDR instead of 256...

It's just my opinion, more memory demanding OS=Rising memory prices (Every OEM now sells their system with at leat 128 megs of ram instead of 64 because of winxp...)

damn, i just picked up a 256 stick like last week for about $110.00 shipped.

this sux!

why didnt i just wait.

all i know is, if the ram goes down to $29-35 per stick of 256, I'm buying a truck load of ram.
