I remember a couple years ago you paid a arm and a leg for a 64meg stick of pc100 now it is dirt cheap.... Heck 256meg of ram is cheaper now than the 64meg used to be....

Ram goes down gas goes up is there a connection?

Supply and demand my friend. Production costs went down, and people now are not needing more and more ram because the OS can't really address it properly beyond a certain point for Desktop OS's and the IT Business sector has been slowing to a near halt as far as growth is concerned. Right now it's not a great time for RAM manufacturers. They just keep dropping prices, hoping people will buy more that way, at least IMHO that's what it is.

Well...to tell you the truth. There's a curve on every OS/Processor. I've noticed that once you get 256 you won't see much difference on PIIIs and AMDs. It's only if you're running a server or just want bragging rights that I'd do that. It may be cheap, but getting 512 will still be $130-150 (or whatever the price is). Invest in another complete system...it'll be a better investment. ;)

<< Now if the video card companies would stop overcharging! >>

They are not overcharging. They only charge what you agree to pay.

i really wish some of the legacy crap would drop in price!
BAH

FPM and ECC 16mb pin ram runs for about twice as much as a generic 128mb stick!

I like this man/woman's way of thinking. So what if your frame rate drops a few? If you want perfect silky smooth game play you will pay !

Ram's are so cheap, if you decide to pick some up, do it because you'll use it wisely and pratically, not because of 'bragging' rights.

Mikal,

I agreed to pay for an Asus V-7700 Deluxe 32meg DDR with TV input output. I wasn't overcharged at all. I paid the price that was listed.

I stuck a gig in my pIII 700 98-SE machine just for $hits and giggles, but guess what! it booted up, I saw the gig on the POST, but When I got into windows, i couldnt open any applications because it said I didnt have enough memory!

Can you believe that?!?!?

I backed it back down to 512 and it is fine. 768 dont work either. 512 must be some kind of limit as someone else just said.

Just an FYI if you are seriously gonna run out and pop a gig in your case. I have 2 sticks of PC133 256 meg ram sitting around waiting for another machine now!

Yakko,

Whatever, man. My point is that to ME they are charging too much....particularly for a Geforce3.

Win98 has a 512 MB RAM bug. It requires a minor patch to fix this.

Its cheap now because I bought all I needed last year!!!

Just like the stock market, I buy and it goes down, I sell and it goes up.

Elledan,

Unless it's been published very recently, there is no fix for the 512MB limitation in 95/98/Me.
