Too wierd to even describe . . . but . . .

Even before the Welcome screen appears, the Radio Disney station begins playing.

I just finished installing Creative X-Fi, and only Creative X-Fi. No Media Station, no
AOL for Desktop #@%$&.

Anyway, short of turning off my speakers there doesn't appear to be any other
way to turn this shyte off. And my system overall, well, it slowed to a crawl. Web
pages flip like sheets in a picture book.

WTF is going on. This is my first experience with Creative. I have the Extreme Gamer
version.

That is strange.

Do you know for a fact it is related to the Creative software?

Is this on a clean load of the OS?

I've installed many a creative soundcard in XP including a bunch of X-Fi's of all the different models & have never had this problem, so I'd say that you either have a defective install CD that is somhow tuning you into an online radio station receiver, or you have some kind of Spyware/virus infection which is doing the same thing.

I suggest you start by uninstalling all creative software & deleting the folders left behind on your HD manually when completed, then try re-installing BUT this time only install the drivers plus the volume control panel & see if that corrects the problem.

Somehow you're picking up/amplifying local RF frequencies -- in this case, an AM radio station. Either your sound card is broken or misconfigured, or your amplifier/speaker setup is acting as an antenna.

I hooked up a video camera recording system for someone a few months ago, and when I turned on the sound -- mexican AM radio. The ~30 foot A/V cables were acting as a big antenna. Hilarious, yet incredibly annoying.

Hideous system performance may indicate that the Creative drivers are not installed properly. Or maybe something is wrong with your motherboard or video drivers.

Why would he only begin receiving radio signals through his PC speakers after installing the Creative software?

I suppose its possible but somhow it seems unlikely.

Sounds like your sound card might be broken. Try and ask Creative.
