Why is R&B about screwing like monkeys, while alternative seems to be more about having a good time?

These two genre's seems to be popular with the young folks today. I like both genre's and was mostly a R&B person til about 10th grade and started listening to alternative (now 80% alternative/20% R&B).

But it seems that alternative is all about having a good time, or just talking about life in general and hanging out.

R&B on the OTOH seems to be all about screwing til your brains pop out of your head. What up with dat?

Well you're making a HUGE generalization, but I understand you. Not all R&B is like that though (E. Badu for exmaple) just like not all Rap/Hip-Hop is gansta/booty crap (Common).

It seems that R&amp;B is about these things:

1) Stank, broke ass boyfriend that don't buy me sh!t
2) Stank hoe that sleeps with all my friends
3) Let me pull up to that bumper and spank that monkey
4) You ain't got no job, get out my face
5) Hey, just met you at the club, let's go back to my pad (or my backseat) and screw
6) I know you're married and got 3 kids, but I still wanna hit it

etc, etc

ditto same with Industrial(KMFDM/MDFMK, Skinny Puppy) Goth(The Cure, Cruxshadows, Apoptygma Berzerk, Joy Devision etc.) and other such genres

r&amp;b is about love and friendship stuff, alternative is about i know nothing about, because I don't listen to it. alternative and rock is about sh!t, hell I barely understand wtf they're screaming and hollering about. I'm referring to RAGE, KORN maybe, and KISS. sue me if I'm wrong. alternative talks about loneliness and the bad stuff. face it, kids like to love cuz we young, then you have the older group listening to alternative, becaues they're lonely, sad, want something else, blah, blah, ...

all songs today are based off rock. its like family, rock gave birth to r&amp;b, rock will die, then r&amp;b will carry on, then it'll die, then..,

Yes Alternative is usually about death and sad things in life not about the good things.

70% electronics 15% R&amp;B 5% Alternative and the rest a whole mix including country (Shania Twain and Faith Hill no less)

Could it be such topics sell among the teenage wasteland of America? C'mon, I doubt an altie song about the horrors of war or an R&amp;B song about social injustice would ever make it into the the top 5 charts on MTV. Hell, I don't even think there are any alternative or R&amp;B songs that discuss such topics.

Signs that your favorite &quot;rock&quot; band has become commercial pop.

1. Music video shot in a high school.
2. Music video involves band playing in the middle of a group of white, teenage fans.
3. Song somehow relates to your insecurities and/or to your need to break out the of that insecurity in a violent way.
4. Music video has ugly people (real rock and roll don't like ugly ppl except band members)
5. 10 year old kids start dressing like the band members.

Sack brings up a good point. I miss the good old days when rock stars were rock stars, and not the pu$$y whipped losers (look at the lead singers for matchbox 20, creed, etc...) that exist now. I loved it when being a rocker meant buying a half-a-million dollar sports car and shacking up with a hot model/porn star...
