Why is Portal 2 $45??!!

Wow. You're so hip with your "console sucks" implication.
Nice straw man. You should really visit the P&N forum with that, you'd be welcome there.
Only to children is being hip the most important thing in life, and they spend all day criticizing things based on that criteria alone. Are you a child?

As for the game, if theres a demo I will certainly play it first, but I cannot say for an absolute certainty I will be entertained by this game so I need to be careful.
I was completely sure I would love Starcraft 2 and it turned out to be a huge mistake. I wish I had been more cautious.

I think you missed the first part of my post where I basically say lazy people that can't Google their own shit are rather annoying, but whatever, here you go:

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=portal+2+length

the link that says the SP is 4 times as long is wrong...it took a quote and misinterpreted the meaning. as mentioned by other people working on the game, they are saying the co-op and single player are both twice as long as the original portal. that geekwhateverthefuck site and you both fail. so not only are you being obnoxious, you are wrong. however, I do remember seeing something recently that mentioned the intention for singleplayer was to be twice as long as the original, but that they went over. not sure on how accurate that is though

As far as I'm concerned, Portal was worth more than $10 originally. It may not be as long as other games, but I don't rate my games in time wasted, but in the quality of that time. Portal gave me a lot of quality for my time, I was happy, sad, engaged, intrigued, challenged and, at the end, felt genuine enjoyment for the game.

If Portal 2 came out at $45 for the exact same game (lengthwise), I wouldn't think about it as being ripped off, but as rewarding developers who put out an amazing first game (and hopefully an amazing sequel) and finally fully being rewarded for their efforts as they should be. Why should they have to accept anything less than full price for a wonderful game while another study can vomit out Call of Duty:96, which is barely any different than the last one, hardly any longer than Portal, purchased by nearly every single person who owns a device it runs on and never drops below $60?

With my money, I want to reward the studio that puts out Portal, a game that actually engages my mind for once.

I honestly feel that some people will accept to pay ridiculous fees for certain games while nickel and dimeing another studio. These people should start to vote with their wallets and want to support the developers that bring new and fresh ideas to their hobby or enjoy wallowing in the same shit year after year.

You nailed it on the head, man. Excellent post.

Except Valve isn't immune to the same bullshit that's infected EA and Activision. Just check out Team Fortress 2's in-game store (which has a side effect of causing players to sit in spawn shopping/trading instead of helping their team). You can buy a strictly cosmetic hat for up to $18. That's one hat. Not a map pack, not a new character, a single hat. I love Valve and most of what they make, but that shit is far worse than anything EA or Activision have ever pulled. Thankfully I don't imagine Portal 2 will suffer the same fate. Valve "gets it" when it comes to game play, and that's what makes them so great, but it's shocking to see that same company fail so hard in other aspects.

Anyhow, my whole point is they're a company just like any other, whose goal is to make money, and they are setting a price they are comfortable with, and that's their right to do so. If they were some small upstart dev company with meager funds I would definitely consider paying more to support them, but they make plenty of money off their own games and every game that sells on Steam, so I know they don't need my charity.

Somewhat off-topic, but a question for those that have pre-ordered the two pack. The single game pre-order on Steam comes with a free copy of Portal 1. Did you get a copy of Portal 1 with the two-pack pre-order? Just curious.

single player twice (2x) as long as the original portal
co-op twice (2x) as long as the original portal

Single player and co-op are separate modes (I referred to them both as "single player mode" to differentiate from MP). 2 + 2 = 4. Pretty simple math.

Do you need me to Google that for you too?

Portal originally was $20. You may not have noticed because we all got the Orange Box, but Steam said $20 if you wanted it separately. That was for a 3-hour single player game.

Portal 2 is 6-hours single player + another co-op mode. So more than twice as much content, and for a little more than twice the price. Seems rather fair.

you're a douche. you were clearly saying that the new single player was twice as long as the new co-op, or 4 times as long as the original portal. sorry but you fail

You're trying to tell me what it was I was trying to say and then splitting hairs over it, because you're too lazy to use Google on your own? Go crawl back in your hole.
