Why is Pittsburgh the only "burg" spelled with an h?

Random question I've always wondered about... PittsburgH ends in an H, yet every other town that ends in burg, just ends there. Is there a real reason for this? anyone know?

Maybe its the same reasoning that makes Cower run Bettis at the goal line screwing up the fantasy points for my man Staley

I heard a bunch of years ago, it was changed. The h was added. The reasoning was it was during WW 1 and the the H made it look less German.

I remember being taught in school that all of the OTHER cities changed their name to sound less German, but Pittsburgh didn't.

And no, Pittsburgh is not different from the rest of PA. "Pittsburghese" can be found from Erie to Altoona to the WVA panhandle and Ohio. It's yinz Philadelphia people who are different.
