Why is pics.bbzzdd.com so unreliable?

Add this to your hosts file in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc:

72.232.196.98 pics.bbzzdd.com

I found that manually redirecting it like that greatly improved its reliability; maybe they've got a funky DNS server.

The more pertinent question is why so many people here insist on using it to host files.

I've been using it for ~4 years, I'm not changing now.

Exactly.

Another option is e-rice.net web hosting for $5 per YEAR but there are a few catches:

1) No domain so your URL will be messy like IP/~username/directory/filename.jpg
2) No PHP or MySQL:

All static plans include 1 FTP account, 5 mailboxes, Domain Zone Manager, and nothing else.
Static series can only serve html pages, images and other static content(avi, doc, zip, etc.).
It does not come with any fancy features but massive amount of data transfer at extremely low cost, ideal for hosting plain html websites or image files for hotlinking.

A better option for $12 per year (first year) is:
$1.99 domain registration
$9.99 web hosting offering 200MB disk, 4GB bandwidth, 10 MySQL/email/FTP and cPanel control panel
==================
$12 per year

If you sign up for RippleHost.com web hosting during sign up process:
Next to How did you hear about us? type RossMAN and receive free Fantastico auto installer.

With Fantastico you can automatically install your own image gallery, forums, blog, CMS, etc.

If you'd like a live demo of cPanel with Fantastico PM me and I'll give you a login

I usually use Flickr, Imageshack, or Picasa Online for sharing ATOT pictures, and those are free and usually more reliable.

I just took a look at both the server uptime and the dns settings. The server uptime is at 99.701% for the last 6 months, so that's definitely not the issue; however, the dns config appears to be a little bit funky. I just sent dwell an IM and we'll see what we can do about getting those straightened out.

Thanks for the post :)

Sorry, but Imageshack is a big POS.

Woo! I'd love to have it fixed. It stopped working for me at the house for about a month, then was good for three of four days, now it's not working again. My brother fooled around with the router for a bit and doesn't thing anything's wrong on our end (which is very weird if that's the case. None of the computers here can get to bbzzdd)
