It is a recertified one. They probably just got a cheap shipment of crap in. Some people with old motherboards might want it as an upgrade(for some god forsaken reason).

in for 4 geforces for some bitcoin mining. oh wait.... lol

They don't support 3-way SLI!

Edit: ehh, nevermind, you don't actually need SLI to bitcoin mine. I think the problem though is that they don't support CUDA :).

Because they still have some P4Ds laying around that they can't get rid of. What should they do with them?

I can remember a few years back that Newegg stocked old Duron 500s in the Days of the P4 and 3500.

not suprised considering that i recently walked into a new "we fix computers" shop seeing if i could unload a s775 chip or 2. "nope, not really interested", said pc guy. "we mostly work on 478 boards".

In the case of the GPU, sometimes, it's easier to just replace a broken part than to get a new machine. Especially if it's a line-of-business computer where migrating software and setup can be prohibitive (esp. if the guy who initially did that setup had been gone for years). E.g., the stuff out there that still run Windows 3.1.

Some people have this irrational obsession with upgrading as far as they can without changing the mobo.

Used S939 X2 4800+ used to moved as high as $180 on Ebay...Which is the price of a brand new Athlon II + mobo + 2GB DDR3.

I mean, how dumb can you get?

Anyone remember power leap adapters?
Of course if you held on to hardware longer a complete upgrade was rather costly.

Today it's changed a lot! Look how cheap RAM is. At least SB boards aren't crazy expensive like some of the X58 boards were. And even the bargain brands like Assrock have pretty decent features and BIOS for tuning, etc.

I know what you mean. My dad was going to take some old hardware to some electronics flee market and called me up to see if I wanted to offload anything. I thought hard about it and remembered a desktop i had. I was remembering back when it had a 2500+ Barton in it. As soon as I remembered it was my 939 4400+ I declined the offer.

That was probably the happiest period I ever had on computers. The smug I must of put out over that setup probably would suffocate a whole city. Just wish I paired it up with a better power supply.

I find the stock a good thing.

My friend has a 4 year old emachines with a celeron 420.

Pentium d should really wake it up for his basic needs along with a 1gb ram upgrade . :)

Celeron 420 is a C2D. Why would you go backwards to a Pentium D? If anything, get an E2xxx Pentium dual-core (which is really a 65nm C2D), and use that. Should be a nice boost. I've got an E2140 left over if you need it.

JATON VIDEO-118PCI-32DDR GeForce2 MX400

comments crack me up:

Cons:Tried to install this as a second card in a Vista PC. There is no support/no drivers for Vista or Windows 7. I wish I'd have known that before I purchased the card
Cons: Not as fast as the integrated video of intel 945GC chipset on intel m-itx board D945GCLF2. Windows Experience (for whatever that's worth) was a 2 for video with integrated chipset and a 1 with this card.

Other Thoughts: I underestimated improvements in integrated video chipsets and overestimated the old technology in this card.
Pros: compatible with older hardware
Pros: looks good with windows 98

Im well aware that it is a C2D but its a real crapper of a processor heck it can't even load up farmville on facebook without lagging the entire machine D:

Now at least a pentium d doesn't do that from first hand experience with the pentium d 820 and also the mobo his pc has is a 945g which only supports up to pentium d.

But he no longer uses that cause i got him into the 21 century with a core 2 duo e8200 clocked to 3.2ghzs :) which blows his mind
