Why is network browsing so slow?

I have a wireless network setup on all windows XP machines (professional). When browsing the network for files it is extremely slow, it takes a long time to actually see what's on the harddrives. Any ideas on speeding this up? I tried to disable netbios over tcp/ip but it ended up that i couldn't see any computers or access any files so i had to turn it back on.

Try to actually to measure the exchange. Depending on distance and quality of connection, 802.11b Wireless may yield only 2-6 Mb/sec. (300KB/sec. to 750KB/sec.) .

Right Click on MyNetwork Places. Click Properties/Tools/Folder Options. Choose the View Tab and UnCheck Automatically Search for Network Folders and Printers.

Reboot.
