Why is nearly 100% of speedvision daytime selection nascar?

The other day i was using the comcasts guide and nascar went from about 10am to 8 or 9 pm straight, with little maybe 30 min blocks of other stuff in between. All the other shows are bumbed ot odd times (saturday/sunday morning) or late night.

Who actually watches all the stuff seriously? Nascar cant be that popular to take up the entire motorsport spectrum.

I know i dont.

Hell... just because i try to avoid all those nascar shows... i end up missing the shows i actually want to watch. 🙁

100% of speedvision at all times is NASCAR crap, I swear. They axed a ton of motorcycle stuff to make the goddamn rednecks get even more reasons to sit in their trailers and watch TV all day. Grr, I hate NASCAR.

It gives the male rednecks something to do, while sitting in the trailer waiting for their wifes to paint their faces, in preperation for their weekly trip to Wall Mart.

Unfortunately Nascar is that popular🙁 Fox would like to call speed tv nascar tv instead but I dont think they can by law and thats the only reason they havent:| I miss all the rally racing, two wheel Tuesday... tons of good shows that are prolly still on but everytime I turn the channel on all I see is nascar so I quit trying🙁

While there are those fans, you will find a lot of people that live in nice houses and have good jobs that watch NASCAR. Saying only Rednecks watch is uninformed at best.

Just about everyone at my company is a huge fan of Nascar, from the lowly janitor to the top level executive. Yeah NASCAR is not just a Redneck sport.

As I look around my apartment, I don't see anything white trash about it... and, yes, I like NASCAR. I am not from the South, I was born in Pennsylvania and lived in Nebraska for most of my life and now I am in Ohio. I have lived in Mississippi and Virginia but I was too little to really remember living there. And you need to realize NASCAR is the #1 motorsport in the country which equals money. Money is really the only thing companies look for. When you show NASCAR, more people will watch it. It's quite simple.

So which are you? A redneck or white trash? Neither? Oh...you're worse. A simple minded stereotyping fool that doesn't seem to have the intelligence or the common sense to analyze what comes out of your mouth before you speak. If you're not an informed or a productive person about a certain topic, then don't bother responding.

That certainly appears to be a stunning condemnation coming from someone whose sig says "poop." So yeah...

yeah ... lets not turn this into a flame war. Either way NASCAR is not that exciting.thrilling/awesome to have that big of a fan base. I'm nearly positive its marketing just like britney spears or backstreet boys - nothing exciting but lemmings will follow if you sink 20 mil into the advertising campaign.

Oh yeah i dont ever buy anything that supports nascar, a) it doesnt show quality or anythign if you put a smiling guy in a drivers overalls on the cover b) i wont be part of this marketing ploy.

Can someone explain where is the main attraction of nascar? honestly i dont see it...
Back in 60 nascar was a demonstration what nearly off the floor room muscle cars can do, "win on sunday, sell on monday" kinda strategy. Nowdays it doesnt really matter either way, the only way you can tell them cars apart is by the fake-sticker headlights and grille. Take those off and you wont even know whos who.

I read an article awhile back about the transition Speedvision has taken over the years. Basically they were a baby cable channel that sold out for the big bucks, and even though I'm no NASCAR fan, they are big money.

My understanding is that is the case. Was it Turner who bought them? In any case the concern is that it would turn into all NASCAR all the time. They said never at Speedovision, but of course they lied.

Present day NASCAR is not about racing: Its about a hi-speed spectical. Kind of like
the ancient Roman Games. As a country our early racing was on banked board tracks.

early sprint cars

M/Cs predating cars

My personal choice has allways been road racing.

I saw NASCAR one time only, at Riverside Raceway in So Cal. I was sitting right at the entrance to the S'es. Those guys were in the dirt half the time.

Race cars do not have doors or fenders!! This I hold true.🙂

Well you clearly don't know what you are talking about, so why keep commenting? It has nothing to do with marketing as it does with how close all the races are and the strategy invovled. The marketing didn't get involved until the Mid to late 90's and then it took off even more. The races do take skill and they also incorporate a lot of pit skills, engineering, and teamwork. NASCAR constantly changes rules and you have teams of engineers trying to get the extra HP, fix the aero, etc while staying within the new rules.

If you don't understand it then you really don't have to comment on it. I rarely watch it, but I can understand while people do in fact enjoy it. It can be very exciting and the same people are out there every weekend getting into it with each and team mates fighting together vs the crowd until the bitter end. It's much more enjoyable than F1 to me, but I guess that is because I don't really care for the way they race.

I used to like Speedvision, where they played more than just races - which I find about as enjoyable as watching paint dry. But I did remember reading this article about the Speed Channel fiasco.
