Why is my santa cruz sound card so much louder on my windows xp machine than my onboard sound on my vista machine?

Yes I checked to make in Vista the sound was turned all the way up for my onboard sound. It doesn't make sense. I wish so badly I could use my santa cruz sound card in my vista machine because the windows xp machine is a very old pc and is so slow. I mainly only use it to have a headphone port for my dvd player sense it doesn't have one directly on it.

The output amp. of many ad-ons cards provide stronger output (more watts) than the Audio Chipset output on the Mobos.

That sucks. I wish I could use on my Vista system because it makes a big difference. I tried getting it to work but nothing would work. I think its even more difficult because I am using Vista 64 bit and there is no 64 bit drivers at all.

Is there anyway I can use my speakers from both my windows vista and windows xp machine so I don't have to keep changing the connection in the back of my pc ?

What kind of speaker system do you have? If you have a receiver its pretty simple, but you won't get analog on one of your rigs. Use 5.1 from your XP machine then digital coax or toslink in Vista, whichever your onboard supports.

Yes, buy a stereo receiver like this:

http://www.sherwoodusa.com/prod_rx4105.html#

You can connect 2 sets of inputs and outputs to it and switch between them with buttons on front.

In Walmart you can pick up "dvd player cables" and a Y shaped thingy that will turn left and right to 1/8 jack which you plug in the computer.

I have this set-up with 2 computers, 2 headphones (there is a headphone jack on front & I use a splitter from one 1/8 to two 1/8 courtesy of Walmart) and 4 speakers (2 sets of 2).

From either computer, I can play audio to:
speaker set 1
speaker set 2
headphones 1
headphones 2

together or separately, say only play on speaker set 2.
Or only play on both headphones.

I got the receiver at Circuit CIty for $80, plus figure about 20 bucks for 2 sets of DVD player cables and 2 jacks (that make left and right in one 1/8 plug).
