I'm on Verizon DSL for nearly 2 years now. When i first go it, i never had any problems. But within the past year i have had the same problem and no one seems to know whats causing it or how to fix it.
Basically, my net connection "stalls" randomly, but usually once every 2 minutes or so. While the net connection is stalled, everything on my computer that accesses the net (IE, Mirc, ICQ, outlook, online games) just hangs until the stall stops, which usually ends in about 20 seconds or so. For example, i can be browsing the net just fine, and then when i click on a link, and IE will just sit at "finding site www.whatever.com" for 20 or so seconds until the net connection resumes. Interestingly enough, if i'm downloading a file, and the net connection stalls, the download is not affected and will continues throughout the stall even though i'm not able to access another webpage for 20 seconds or so.
I've had this problem for over a year, and its affected me across several OSes including win98, ME, and 2000. Any idea what could be causing this? Or how to fix it.
I have an external Westel DSL modem attached to a 3com NIC... but i know these aren't at fault cause i had the same problem with my old internal DSL modem.
My guess is that the problem lies either with WinPoeT or some network property. I know verizon isn't at fault because i have friends with the same service and this doesn't happen to them.
