i have a p-m based mini-itx board made by ibase

its the ibase mb890 anyways i noticed right after i built the thing, the ram is only identified as 490mb at post even though its a 512mb dimm; but it should be 512mb cas 2.5 3-3-7

any thoughts?

Do you have an integrated video card that is pulling out 32MB of system RAM for shared memory?

512 MB - 32MB for video = 491,520 kB

yes i do, thanks for answering my question, never thought about that

I usually set the onboard video to 4 meg in integrated system builds like that.... heh

if you are actually going to use the thing for what little 3d it has to offer, then stick with 32, but otherwise, bump it down a few notches!

I've noticed more and more motherboards only offering 16 as the minimum the onboard video ram can be set at. Its really starting to piss me off since most of the machines I make just run word all day with an 800x600 screen res and 16bit color debt. Whoever the jerks designing those bios options are...

The jerks would be at Microsoft ... current MS certification criteria for a "Windows Compatible" PC include graphics memory must not be less than 16M.
