I have not got a clue, but I am getting some low keyrates with what ever version I am using currently. I am stuck with linux until I can fix my win2k partition again. Damn corrupted files :|

Someone help!

well it was the latest released client from dnet. I am usiong mandrake 7.2 and I am in the graphical enviroment. I am getting about 600kkeys. Normaly i get 2.3 Mkeys, so my production is hurting bad. Anyone got any ideas? How do I up the priority?

First are you in smp mode? (aka are you using two CPU's ?)
If not sure, cat /proc/cpuinfo (could be just cpu), it should have two entries if you have dual.

The next thing to check is what's using your CPU. Do a top, and see what's running on the box. You can have run away netscape processes that will use all the CPU.

After that, I would recommend trying the dnetc benchmark to make sure you are benching at a good speed.

If all else fails, come back here and explain what you got.

You should know that Linux Mandrake 7.2 is one of the most bloated Linux distributions currently out there, as it runs a plethora of cron jobs and scripts almost every hour. Furthermore, on every install I did with LM7.2, there were no harddisk optimalizations. A HD that defaults to PIO mode and some very HD intensive cron jobs can bring the performance down considerably. Check out http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1384&p=7 to get the cmd line sintax of hdparm for proper DMA access.

Linux is one of the fastest OS'es for RC5, BUT ONLY if you use the command line. Linux is great, but one must admit that it's GUI's are buggy and really slow, if you use them. You should surely start dnetc from a text-console, do your work in the GUI, and log out of the GUI when you stop using your PC. That's what I do, and I've noted that this helps the keyrate too.

You could also use webmin to disable some nonessential services. Simply point your browser to https://127.0.0.1:10000 and login as root.

I hope those few tips will help you out. Otherwise, you could just use KLinux when you don't use your computer.

well i am in linux because of my win2k dying on me. I think I will try out klinux for when i am away.
