Why is my Ipod (via firewire 6 pin) not connecting to Win XP?

System:

Intel P4 1.6A
Win XP SP2
Soyo P41-Firedragon
Audigy 2 ZS
9600XT

So my Ipod used to work fine w/ my comp. I use the 6 pin Firewire cable to connect. I think it might have been when I reformatted but I can't be sure. I've done a lot of upgrading lately and I don't know if something I upgraded messed up the F/W ports.

Anyways, I've replaced my Ipod 15gb 3gen unit and the F/W cable. So I know it can't be the Ipod or the F/W cable.

Also I took my ipod to the apple store and it connected to their macs.

So it's clear that my F/W ports don't work on my comp.

I have 2 on my mobo (1 on the mobo itself internally, and 1 in a 3.5" drive bay type) and 1 on my Audigy 2 ZS card.

All 3 F/W ports will charge the Ipod but will not connect to Windows. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the IEEE1394 in my device manager and checked conflicts in IRQ...nothing seemed wrong. Just can't connect.

So would anyone know what could be the problem?

Thanks!

Drivers for your onboard firewire would be key, also you did install iTunes and what not correctly right? In your processes, do you have iPodService.exe and iTuneshelper.exe running?

ALSO, does the iPod show in iTunes but not on your comptuter? if so go to iPodoptions when it is connected into iTunes and check Allow disk usage (or something along those lines)

Well, I don't think there were any drivers that came w/ my Mobo for firewire. I checked the mobo CD and there wasn't anything for firewire. I installed pretty much all the necessary drivers for my mobo.

Yes I have itunes and the necessary ipod software installed. Whenever I plug in my Ipod, even in itunes it won't see anything. I'll do the ipod updater and it will say "no ipod connected".

I'm at work right now, but I'll double check that those 2 processes are running.

Drag and drop what?

Windows can't even see the Ipod...it's virtually non-existant according to my computer.

It shows up in Device Manager.

There are 2 IEEE 1394 OCHI Complaint hosts or whatever.

Both say the devices are working correctly.

both processes are running yet no Ipod detection...guess my last resort is to either format or go buy a firewire pci card...

I'm having the same problem with my iPod and Firewire connection right now too. When I plug the iPod into the Firewire port, the iPod will charge, but the computer doesn't detect the actual iPod. And the drivers for the IEEE1934 port are working properly.

Anyone have a clue why?

I'm still having problems.

I'm gonna go to the applestore and get a new unit for a 2nd time...that means this will be my 3rd unit.

Anyways...I found this link:

and a lot of ppl are having the same problems as we are, but I could never get mine to work.

It's strange b/c I was able to set up an Ipod Mini perfectly fine...but my original and replacement 3G 15gb Ipod woudln't work...

I'm hoping this 3rd 15GB Ipod will work...starting to really piss me off.
