Could be a lot of things.

Are any warning or indicator lights on? Take it to AutoZone and see if they'll scan it for codes.

Very unlikely there will be codes.
Check your alignment and tie-rods. Those are most likely issues. Once in a great while the steering column.

Does it shake if you have it stopped and in neutral and rev the gas pedal?

You have a worn universal joint or joints in the drive shaft. From the shaking it is probably getting ready to come apart.

Get it checked or you will be walking soon.

Sounds like possible cylinder misfire, how long has it been like that?

If it was a cylinder misfire it would throw a CEL Code for a misfire...
Not necessarily, if it's a random misfire and doesn't happen all the time. You'll see a pending code, but the CEL stays off. I only suspected this because he said the engine only shakes when under load. Or it could be something wrong with the transmission too.

Your alignment could be off or your tires may not be balanced. Are you the only one who drives it? Perhaps someone drove it and thought the curb was part of the road hitting something on a 30-45 degree angle. You tires could be flat spotting but that is unlikely.

The feeling of it losing power and about to die doesn't hint at a drive line issue. However it not doing anything when not in drive doesn't hint at an engine issue. I'm led to believe there is some computer air/fuel issue that may not be throwing a CEL.

Agree. But it sounded more constant under a load to me which should throw a code / pending code. Wouldn't hurt to have it checked with a reader.

Motor mounts? Have someone put it drive and reverse with the engine running and brakes on and see if the engine moves excessively.

Could be a Throttle Position Sensor if the engine is breaking down in acceleration. Another indication is hi lo revs when while warming up cold in park.
