Why is my drive so slow?

I have DIAMONDMAX PLUS D740X 60 gig and I tested sisoft sandra for the first time after having this drive and it doesn't even seem faster than the udma 66 5400rpm drive I had before.

My score is 10762 which is just above 5400rpm udma 33 hard drive. I should be getting way over 24000.

I have 2 partitions one with 19.5meg and the other with 36.3meg which is NTFS.

The drives are no way near filled up.

Using win2k by the way.

don't talk like that, I just bought one tonight:Q

stoagereview thinks it's prett fast

what is your interface running at?
80pin cable?

I checked the bios and it's on auto. I looked at the bootup screen and it's at udma 100.

Do you think I should RMA this drive or test it more with other disk benchmark progs?

Try updating your BIOS and chipset drivers.

Also are you sure you're using an ATA/100 cable? If you're using an ATA/33 cable it'll limit the transfer speed.

Yes I'm using 80pin cable one that came with my motherboard.

I just updated my via drivers to 438, still no help. 🙁

I'm gonna flash my bios next and than try using the other ide channels + my onboard raid.

I'm also having problems with my hard drive and/or motherboard
I have a western digital 60 gig 7200rpm drive ( ata 66 I think) on a kt133 chipset mobo ( Andara barebones )
My score is horrible 2600 when it should be at least 17000
I changed ide cables and it shows I'm running in DMA mode whereas before it showed pio mode.

what is of more relevence is if the hdd is using dma transfers!
Device Manager > IDE/ATAPI Controllers > Primary IDE/Secondary
IDE Channel > Advanced Settings > Transfer Mode > DMA if available >
> OK

Windows enables this by default. I double checked to make sure.

I used all the ide channels + raid and it's not my motherboard because my 5400rpm udma66 drives is faster than this drive.

I updated the bios and still no change. I guess I'll RMA this drive. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
