Why is my CPU running so hot??

I'm running a 2100+ Athlon Xp on an asus a7v333.

I have a Lian Li Lian Li PC-6085A with 4 80mm fans.

2 in front intake, 1 top, 2 in back.

The cpu fan is a 6cu+ volcano from thermaltake running at a constant 7105rpm ( thre is also thermal grease on btw).

Right now just typing on the net asus probe is reporting 53C or 127F. The computer has been running for most of the day but only gaming on and off.

Air temperature inside the room is about 75Degrees.

Anyone know whats up??

Thanks

53C is not hot, and socket thermistors tend to have a margin of error in reporting the true core temps.

I agree with John in that 53c is not too bad (hot). I like to keep things cooler but there are many that are happy with that range. It does sound like you have sufficient airflow. If you want to lower things a bit, try a better HSF. An AX-7 or SLK800 would most likely knock you down into the mid 40's +/-.

Don't worry, the Athlons were designed to work with no problems up to 70C, so you have a lot of headroom!

Actually, you can start getting some lockups and other "fun" stuff at temps below that. Besides, they have a "failure" temp of 90C; I don't think I want to get that close. 😉

"Why is my CPU running so hot??" Becuase it wants to.

"Anyone know whats up??" Not your processor temperature, thats for sure.

Thats a fine temperature for an Athlon. They all run hot. I consider anything less than 50C to be cool for an Athlon: mine is running at 47C full load.

I agree with John also.... Just make sure you don't have too much thermal goop on 😉. Over doing it does'nt mean cooler temps. Also a better hs/f is a good choice. Just keep an eye on the temps. Try getting "MBM". I like it better. Seems that Asus probe tends to be a bit high on their readings. My 3DMarks

You'll never get much better using that heatsink. That is the main problem.

Good and far better solutions are the AX-7, SLK800, SLK600, V7+ and even the lower cost dr thermal line of heatsinks, the ones with a copper core.

Still though, IF that temp is accurate it isn't that bad. Especially considering the hsf used.

anything under 50 cool.

humm mine rund at 38 under full load!!! runnin a XP1700+ at 1900+ specs using a SK-6 with the delta fan. have good case cooling see my rig. i get annoied when my temp gets above 42C only does this when its really hot

I wouldn't sweat it, your temps are within its design thermal spectrum. My XP2100+ idles at 53.5C and peaks under load around 63 - 64C. I have never seen it go over 64C, and I'm using an Aplha PAL8045 with a ThermalTake Smart-2 fan (mod) with the adjustable rheostat set to run 4500 RPM. Lian-Li aluminum case w/twin 80MM intakes. 80MM case exhaust, RaidMac 400W twin fan P/S, ATI AIW DV, Creative Audigy Platinum, 3 optical drives, floppy, ZIP, & Qty (4) 120GB H'drives ( Pair in RAID-0 ) I'm not thrilled when I see it up to 63.5, but I won't panic until I see a silicon puddle forming at the bottom of the case - it'll shut itself off before it dies. If I could just use the heat to give power to Scotty in Engineering, he wouldn't snort all those Di-Lithium Crystals.

"I'm givin' all the power she got, Captn', I think shes gonna blow !"

I have just finished setting up a TBird 1.33 with the Vol 6cu+. The temps were in the mid 40s and since this machine will be used for light gaming and internet/business I decided to use Wpcredit/Wpcrset. Once set it is now running at 36C IDLE. Research these 2 utilities as an alternative to upgrading the Heatsink. You will need to upgrade the Heatsink over the long term since over time temps have been known to increase as thermal paste/compound do tend to break down.
