Why is my connection so slow?

I went to the speak easy speed test, and took the test around 10 times. The average speed for my down is around 2.7 mbps and upload is like 600 kb/s.

BUT.. Whenever I load an actual page, sometimes the images load up so slowly (this is for MULTIPLE websites, not just one). My internet just feels slow, slower than the 1.5 Mbps I had before. WTF?

is it a browser problem? are you using firefox?

I'm using Firefox with the multiple pipelines enabled, or whatever that hack is. It's also slow in Opera and IE.

For example, it now shows the alternative text for the images before they load up. WTF?
