It takes like 2+ minutes to load my computer from off to where I can open programs. My new laptop with a 1.6 C@D and 5400RPM HD, 2GB RAM, with slower everything, and it loads so much faster its very annoying. Im just wondering what could be causing this.

Average HD speed on HD Tune is around 50-55 MB/s.

My computer's stats are in my sig. I have a 7200RPM HD with that.

Go into your Msconfig and disable all startup items and then disable all non-microsoft services and reboot. You can go back in and re-enable them again, but we're just testing to see how fast your pc boots with nothing at startup.

but does not fix the issue. the one item you can permanently disable. I use "Startup Control Panel" it's a very simple program to see what's autostarting and remove it. I'd get it and recheck to see what's autostarting normally, and then we can see what can and can't be turned off.

do you use CCleaner?

one last thing is to use this guide.

He already said he only uses AVG antivirus. And how does it not fix the issue?

tank, if i were you i would only have AVG in your startup and services and everything else turned off for best performance. That's what i have and my system is up and running very in a snap.

symantec and mcafee have other products besides antivirus, davey, do try and keep up.

so, you're telling him to disable any firewall, and other security precautions, that's not a very wise thing to tell someone to do.

You are really starting to try my patience rob. He replied to your first question of what protection he's running above and he responds...yet you still ask him again if he runs those. And of course mcafee and symantec have other products, i've been working professionally on pc's for 10yrs.

I clearly did not tell him to disable his firewall and other security programs like you claim.

I told him to keep AVG enabled and where did i say to turn off his firewall??

You seriously need to read posts more thoroughly.

I normally wouldn't post like this, but when someone posts lies about me, i won't stand for that.

Maybe it was the same attitude that got him banned from bleepingcomputer forums a week before he showed up here.

davey, I've been working on computers for 30 years now, so you told him and I quote "everything else turned off for best performance." that's telling him to disable any other security software he's running, up to and including firewalls, antispyware, etc.
I'd suggest you research the definition of lying, as well.

Jack, so, stalking huh, I'll be contacting the authorities since you're digging into my personal life, last time I checked someone was sent to prison for stalking another.

robisbell, while I admire your "work ethic," I am forced to agree with the multiple complaints I've recieved about your sometimes-abrasive posting approach, which evidently is spilling over into PMs. That's over the line. Take a week off.

OP, your thread got wrecked. Please feel free to start a new one if you need.
