so in one of our smaller rooms, I notice that the carbon monoxide detector is chirping. I look at it, and it has a solid green light. Funny thing is that it only chirps in the morning. When I come home from work, it doesn't make any noise.

anybody know why?

thanks.

chirping in smoke/CM alarms = needs new batteries.

Also, CM alarms need to be replaced every handful of years. I'm guilty myself though.

Probably because it's cold at night and that's when your furnace runs.

Check to make sure your furnace is lighting properly and not leaking gas.

The wood fairy only comes in the morning and a little know fact about him is he actually emits low level carbon monoxide when he uses his wand.

you need to replace the battery. that or the room is full of carbon monoxide and you are dead right now.

battery replacement doesnt stop chirping. it would beep repeatedly every 10 mins or whatever but not just in the mornings.

I think it's what the other guy said about the furnace running during the night time and gas leaking somewhere. You open your windows during the daytime?

I hate it when the batteries get low. It'll throw it this awful chirp at seemingly random intervals about 15-30 minutes apart. I'm never quite sure where its coming from. Usually takes me about a week to figure out which one is chirping.

Isn't there a difference between a chirp and a blaring carbon monoxide alarm telling you something's wrong in the air?

I think he is on bad terms with his CO alarm.

I would think that an alarm would make a ear deafening noise that you couldn't ignore if it were trying to tell you it had detected carbon monoxide. So it should be a low battery noise... maybe the battery's chemical state changes a bit in the morning, due to temperature flux, causing it to only beep at that time.

marijuana smoke contains some carbon dioxide. I remember a couple of years ago, our CO alarm was going crazy upstairs. (3 bedrooms upstairs)
fire dept. came to check it out, and the found the highest concentration in my pothead housemate's room. pretty funny

nah. well kinda. a continuous blare would indicate a full alarm, wake the fuck up, you're dead in 5 minutes....

A repetition of beeps means there is some CO buildup... and mere chirping at a regular interval means change the battery.

You think that's bad? At my parents vacation house the smoke detectors are all networked together. If the batteries in one of them die, they all start beeping. It isn't simultaneous either... they all just start beeping at random times.

It took me like a week to figure that out too. I thought I was going insane because I didn't realize they were all beeping, so I kept going from detector to detector listening for the one that beeped, and it kept moving.

It has to be some kind of sick joke on the part of the manufacturer.
