Why is my burner's LED always on?

I have a plextor PX-W4824TU 48X CDR-W burner. This burner originally comes from an external enclosure made by plextor. But since the USB 2.0 controller card from the enclosure died, I took it out and put it in my computer by using IDE. I don't know why but the burner's LED is always on (idle/green). There is nothing wrong with the burner, it burns and read just fine and is extremely quiet when on idle. It's currently set on a single channel by itself. But it does blink orange when it's burning and reading. I have never seen this burner being used in the enclosure before so I do not know if the green led was there before or not. Maybe this green LED is to tell that it's on idle??? Anyone have any clues? Thanks

green LED is to tell that it's on idle

most likely..my DVD burner's green LED stays lit when there is a disc in it.

I also keep a blank CDR in mine - and the small LED tells me it is ON. If I switch it off - the LED goes off. This is normal. The burn LED is a flashing LED - a bigger one in the middle. If I rem0ve the blank CDR - the little green LED stays on. Conclusion - it is the power on LED. 🙂

Try setting the burner to Master if it is not already.

This burner is set on master. So I have come to the conclusion that the green led is a POWER ON led. Thanks everyone.
