Why is my benchmark so low??

The answer might be obvious in the hardware, but I don't get it. I thought this computer was pretty decent until I ran a benchmark test on it and it came back with surprisingly low marks on everything. I was only curious because it the browsing seems considerably slower than my desktop with a quad-core i5 2300.

It's a Toshiba C55-C5240. Here are the specs: http://support.toshiba.com/support/staticContentDetail?contentId=4007428&isFromTOCLink=false

In a nutshell, it's a dual-core i5-5200U 2.2Ghz processor with 8GB RAM.

Does it make that huge a difference just from dual-core to quad-core? I thought because the processor was newer even though its the same level at i5 that it would be somewhat improved.

OK, so I didn't know the TDP was such an important value. It is a laptop vs a desktop, so that makes sense.

But, I'm still baffled because even the comparison for the i5 in the link you provided is 3544... my bench was 1426 and 1396 when I ran it a second time! Why on earth is my score less than 60% the average for this CPU mark???

So, I went into the power settings and recognized it was set to eco-balanced. This must have caused the processor to underclock itself to save power. I ran it again and came back with a smooth 3786 rating on the CPU mark. 🙂
