Why is my Barton 2500 topping out at 2.2ghz with these temps????

Someone please explain this to me. My system (in sig) is rock stable at 2.2ghz with my vcore at 1.725v. Temps never get above 32c even after 15+ hours of Prime95. So I bump it up to 2230mhz and run Prime95 again, and it craps out after like 5 min. So I push the vcore to 1.75v and run it overnight. I woke up this morning and Prime95 was giving errors. My CPU temps were topping out at 34.5C.

I just don't understand how I can be stable at 2200 with 1.725v vcore, but I can't push it an extra 30mhz even after bumping the vcore to 1.75v. It is almost like my CPU has a ceiling on it and it just refuses to go higher than 2200. Anyone else seen similar problems?
 
Yep, confirms what I and some others have been posting about their 2500+. Mine does 2.3ghz@default, 2.35ghz@1.725v, 2.43ghz@1.85v seems like after you hit a certain speed without pumping the voltage much, or at all, that the max potential on 1.85v or less is usually only 100-150mhz away.
 
Wow this really blows. I was planning on getting my watercooling setup installed sometime also, and now I have a sick feeling that it will be put to waste....
 
Your core temp is not 32 C... a temp reading of 32 C is probably being taken from the socket, and also is probably wrong (not calibrated properly, reading on the low side). At that speed and voltage your processor is putting out over 100 watts of heat... the only way to cool it to 32 C is with water cooling or some other extraordinary means of cooling, it WON'T happen with just air.
That said... your core might even be up around 60 or 70 C... but that's not to say that's what's limiting your overclock. Bartons were never engineered to run beyond 2.2 Ghz... so anything above 2.2 is luck... some people are luckier than others, and some weeks are better than others.
I wouldn't be disappointed with 2.2 Ghz... you just got a $400 processor for $90, so don't complain 😀

yup i agree with jeff i can usually only do 2.2 ghz unless im running cool and form a hardboot.... just dont worry about it dude...... a 3200+ at a fourth of the price isn't too shabby man

Watercooling isn't all about max OC, it's about having a quieter PC too.

Well I do agree that my temps are probably a bit off, as I have had case temps around 62F when I am sure it is almost 70 in the room.

That being said, my aircooling system is a bit more advanced than most peoples (and my ears pay the price for that).

I am just dissapointed to here that some other people were getting 2.2ghz with the stock HS/F, and I put all of this work into my cooling system without even an extra megahurt to show for it.
 
I got mine up to 2.3ghz for (1.5 loops of 3dmark2001) with stock fan, 1.75volt didn't want to raise the valtage any higher. Luck of the draw I guess
