Why is my account getting locked out?

Czar

Lifer
At work we have a win2k server, and for some strange reason my account gets locked out after about 30-60 minutes after I login. I dont know why its happening, event viewer doesnt give a reason, just that it has been locked out. I'v also ruled out Outlook and Trillian for being the cause of it.

Its getting anoying to have to login as administrator to unlock my account every morning.

Are you logged in anywhere else?
Do you have any scheduled jobs, that run under your ID?
Check the security logs on ALL the domain controllers, and search for the lockout message for your account. The event should tell you which workstation is causing the lockout. In addition, W2K ADs have "issues" w/ replication of account lockout, bad password attempt, and account unlocks. You may need to unlock your account on each individual DC, or at least the problem ones.
If none of the above sheds any light:
Immediately after login, remove all your net uses. Logoff, logon again, and recreate the net uses. Reason: If you have a connection to a W2K resource, and change your password, W2K doesn't appear to update the credentials that are in use for that connection. When the resource reauthenticates you, it uses your old (cached) credentials.

think I know what was wrong, I logged in as myself using remote desktop on the server instead of the administrator account a week ago, probably that, I just logged in and out again. (last time I just closed the remote desktop window)

I will see tomorrow how it went, or later today😛
