Why is my 8600GT 256 meg beating my new HD3850 512 meg?

When I installed the HD3850 I had problems with it not going above 1024x768 and my dell 19"
LCD which was auto detected with my 8600GT is not detected and just shows as a non-pnp monitor. I had to force the 1400x900 in the catalyst manager.

3dmark03 score for 8600gt was over 20k, the hd3850 is just getting 14k


system is Quad core q6600 @ 3ghz
4 gigs ram
windows 7 64 bit

just because i used that and 06 on the 8600gt to compare. i noticed catalyst says my clocks are only 300/828 that seems low.

If you are looking at that while at the desktop it's in the 2D clocks and it's correct. If you can run a game or something in a window and then check the clocks in CCC and if it stays at 300/828 then that's a problem.

ok I figured out the LCD problem. i just ran 3dmark06 and got 10390 3DMarks, the 8600GT OCed gave me 6900. Does 10390 seem normal? OCed 720/1003 I got 11325 3DMarks

10390 is normal. I get just a tad under 10000 with my HD3850, overclocked to near HD3870 speeds.

I scored 9.7K with my old HD 3850 AGP ICEQ 3 GPU @ 800MHz/RAM2GHz with my old Pentium M @ 2.70GHz, very nice card.
