Hi,

I just bought a pair of EDO pulls from a Compaq that are 32 mb's each. When I went to install them, they only show up in Windows 98 as being 8 mb's each. Does anybody have an idea to as why? I tried the sticks in different SIMM slots and it always shows up as 8 mb's. BTW.. I tried the Crucial FAQ and the only thing that I could find is to try different SIMM slots, which didn't help any.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Sal

You may want to include what motherboard you have .. or at least what chipset ... With that info .. you will probably get some good responses

I'm not sure what motherboard I have. It's the Digital Celebris 6180 with a PPro 180 mhz processor. It says that this mobo supports 32 mb SIMM's up to 192 mb's total (6 SIMM slots).

These sticks of RAM are Compaq pulls and are double sided. I'm not positive on the markings, but it looks like it has more chips than my 16 mb SIMM's.

The funny thing is that when I bought this RAM from someone, I also got a single 32 mb SIMM and a pair of 16's that I'm using in an expander board. Both the single 32 mb SIMM and the pair of 16's in the expander board work perfectly. If I thought I was going to have a problem, that's what I thought I'd have a problem with first, not the two 32 mb SIMM's.

Any other ideas? Could the Compaq SIMM's be proprietary SIMM's? They say that they are made by Texas Instruments.

Doh! Never mind. I just talked to the guy I bought the SIMM's from and he made a mistake and grabbed a pair of 8's instead of 32's. I can see where he could make the mistake. They are double sided and look just like the other 32 mb SIMM that he sent me.

Thanks for all of your help!
