Why is MSN Messenger blocking file transfers?

Well MSN Messenger has a file and photo transfer feature. What use is it when you can't even send anything with it? It blocks mp3s, jpegs, gifs...ect. To send anything I have rename it to a .txt extension. I tried a registry hack but after a few days it doesnt seem to work anymore. Damn MS!
