why is MS Excel a file nazi?

why cant it create a temp copy of whatever you are opening, so you can modify "it" and access it at the same time, rather than locking-out that opened file from other programs?

You can open a excel file while someone has it opened, it would just open in read only mode. It doesn't make sense to allow more than one person to edit the same excel file at the same time.

Concurrency issues. If you don't lock the file someone else can open it and you guys can play update tag all day.

Well, I guess it comes down to the environment I work in. Here, they use Excel worksheets like sane people would use fucking Word tables, and then bitch when they flake out.

I will readily admit to noob status with the software. Like I said, maybe my shitty experience has hidden its glories from me. Tell me what you would do if, every time you saw the software, someone was complaining because they were running into the character limit for a fucking cell and wanted you to "fix" it.

... I've built my last two PCs and been using them since that 486 I got when I was 11, but I'll be sure to go back to iWork and Numbers, whatever the hell those are, with the quickness!

I agree but i still hate the fact that i cant copy something and then close the excel sheet it and paste it elseware
