Miller Lite is the only "Lite" beer that is spelled this way as opposed to "light".. why is that?

Because someone was sick the day they taught spelling in school.

Marketing?

To give the impression that it's a different light beer than all the rest?

Mr. Miller didn't pass english?

i dunno, i couldn't think of anything.. but in all seriousness, does it matter? a lot of companies have misspelled words in their product names on purpose.

Well yeah, I think his point is that there are a lot of other products where Lite is common, but with beer it's just Miller Lite. Which I'm not sure is the case, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. Can't say I've ever noticed that before. But then all I drink is Miller Lite anymore.

When Miller bought out Meister Brau in the 70s, they acquired their Meister Brau "Lite" brand, and reformulated the recipe turning it into Miller Lite.

So you see, they got the spelling from the brand they bought out and kept it for it's uniqueness. No other brand uses it because then it would be confused with Miller.

Which raises the question, why did Meister Brau name it "Lite?" ;)

Meister Brau! My babysitter's husband used to give me that when I was a kid.

A lot of times companies misspell words so that they can trademark them more easily. I would suspect that if another beer called itself "Lite", Miller might claim it is infringement.
