Why is McDonalds so stingy with sauce?

They went out of the way to check the logs of the order to give me 2 BBQ sauces. Really? 1 sauce for 5 nuggets only or they charge me 50 cents..

Because of the people who would pocket 20 sauces to take home with their 5 nuggets.

you could always get back by stealing napkins. thereby saving money on paper towels, kleenex, and, conceivably, toilet paper.

Those sauces cost them $$$$, and too many people (including myself) would get a bajillion sauces with their nuggets. I used to love their sweet and sour :)

I have noticed around here they stop asking what kind of sauce you want when you order nuggets, and you have to specifically ask for it.

Not that I go to McDonalds very often, but my exerience with it -- and all fast food places, for that matter -- is that when you ask for sauce, the drive-thru attendant gives you two fistfulls. I only want one but end up with 12 sauces. I might want one or two ketchup packets and end up with 20. They do this with napkins, too. Sorry, it's not good service. It's just wasteful and kind of stupid.

Then there are the jackasses that will drive back to the window or go into the store to complain if too little is given. Just take what you get because there is always someone else that thinks differently from you. All you do is make life more difficult for the worker.

I used to eat at KFC a lot because it was across the road from my old job. They always gave me way more sauce than I needed, so I'd only ask for sauce if I didn't have any left in my office. But then they started to recognize me and they knew I usually asked for the hot sauce, so they'd give it to me whether I asked or not. By the time I quit that job I had a desk drawer filled with KFC hot sauce packets.

I love to put Taco Bell sauce on chicken, but I don't eat anything at Taco Bell. They used to have a Pizza Hut/Taco Bell at my Target, so I'd get some Pizza Hut and then grab some Taco Bell sauce for the road. They used to sell Taco Bell sauce in jars, but I can't find it anymore. :( And they took the Taco Bell out of the Target, so my source for Taco Bell sauces has dried up.

Relax. You're only renting it anyway. You'll be giving that sauce back in 2, maybe 3 hours tops.

I dunno. I don't complain or go back and waste everyone's time, including myself, but I do think that I have a right to think it's idiotic that asking for a "couple" sauces should translate to "give the customer 15 sauces because some fatass comes through four times a week and two is never enough." I guess the only thing I can be faulted for is expecting anything but sloppiness from a fast food joint.

IN terms of being "difficult for the worker," I know what foodservice is like having worked it on a multitude of levels over my lifetime. It's not worth getting upset over sauce packets if you're operating a drive-thru lane.

True, but personally I think an embarrassment of riches is preferable to being in want. If you don't want the sauce you can always throw it away or stick it in a drawer/fridge. Whereas if you're in want of sauce (like I usually am cause my mcdonalds forgets half the time and one time gave me one sauce packet for an order of 10 nuggets. Thanks guys.)
