Why is Lexus seen as more prestigous than Acura and Infiniti?

Acura basically started the luxury segment of Japanese cars in 1986. Lexus and Infiniti came in at around 89-90 yet Lexus was able to suprass both of these companies in brand recognition and quality. IMO Lexus is on par and sometimes above BMW and Mercedez Benz.

americans invented lots of things. like the car. doesn't mean they're still good at making them.

Lexus is way above BMW and Mercedez Benz in terms of quality. But then, so is Acura and Infiniti.

Maybe as a general statement, speaking for the general public - Lexus has more brand recognition. But for me, the TSX and G35 are simply the best cars in their respective classes. Lexus doesn't make a car I would buy, although the IS350 is nice, I would rather have the G35.

Infiniti is getting up there now though. 3-4 years ago Acura was considered better than Infiniti, now its the other way around...

I've always thought of Acura as being slightly less prestigous than Inifniti, which was noticeably less prestigious than Lexus, BMW, Audi, etc. Mostly due to the vehicles themselves. The integra and its replacements were good cars but not all that luxurious, same for the G20. With the newer model cars, they are starting to seem more prestigious.

Infiniti > *

Look at all the flagships.

RL = Plain, boring
LS430 = Underpowered
Q45 = Best looking, best performance

A big part is brand recognition. I live in a county of about 200k or so, and the closest dealers offering Infiniti and Acura is over 100 miles from here (different state), so you hardly ever see anyone here drive either. Of course, we do have a Lexus dealer.

I as well as the general public disagrees. I liked the Q too, but I believe, though Im not sure, that LS430s have far outsold the Q. I really liked the headlight design though, and I remember it got good reviews on some track test. I agree the RL sucks though. The old RLs were always pretty plain, and the new one just doesn't seem like it represents the best Acura has to offer. I almost think the RL should be the TL sometimes.

I remember awhile back that Lexus's GS and LS line were exclusively made in Japan but I can't say if this is still true today. I guess back then they just couldn't trust American workers with their flagship line of cars.:confused:

Marketing.

True but their current ads are insanely stupid.

Lexus doesn't make a car I would buy, although the IS350 is nice, I would rather have the G35.

I don't think the IS and G35 are in the same class, more like the SC line. Between the SC430 and G35, I'll take the G35.

I think it's because maybe Lexus has a bigger market share worldwide. You have people in India, who know what a Lexus is (and rarely even driving one), but they don't even know what an Acura or an Infiniti is. It's the same case on mainland Europe, Acura, and Infiniti, both are pretty much unheard of, whereas Lexus you see quite a few of.

Also, I'm not sure how it works with Acura and Infiniti, but with Lexus, Toyota doesn't offer the models that are available with Lexus for sale outside Japan, if I'm not mistaken.

Isn't the SC430 like 60k vs maybe 40k for a decked out G35? Also does the SC430 come in manual? I know he G35 does.

Aside from the quality of the car, it's also the service and treatment you get from the Lexus dealership - which I've heard is very good.

toyota consciously picked only their best dealerships to become lexus dealers, honda did not do the same with acura.

toyota has the LS400, big v8 rwd mercedes clone. acura had the legend, which while it looked nice was fwd and had a v6. v6 + fwd = not luxury. through the mid-late 90s when people started becoming affluent at a very rapid rate, acura's top end car had less horsepower than it's mid range car, and weighed more. that's a big problem and they went years without fixing it.

plus acura's leather was crap.

how is an under $40 grand 4 door sedan with a v6 and sport suspension in the same class with a $60 grand convertible landyacht with a useless back seat?

Brand history.
When they first came out the Lexux offerings were much better than the Infinity and Acura offerings. It was all about the first launch which Lexus did an awesome job of and just bit Infinity to the table.
