Why is iTunes so sluggish?

I don't exactly have a new PC (P3 750 w/ 512mb ram), but I've never seen a program run so slow on my machine.

This isn't much of a comparison, but my father has a 2.8 ghz emachines computer with 1gb ram and it still seems sluggish on his computer.

Is the program somehow graphics intensive? Why does it feel so slow?

(I just got my first iPod today - but I'm already using Anapod)

I've found the same thing. Horribly sluggish program and really not that great. The library features are ok but I still prefer Windows Media Player.

Doesn't seem sluggish to me, not on my Athlon 64 X2, Pentium M, or Athlon XP rigs. Have graphics drivers installed?

I've got a 32 Matrox G450 with the latest drivers. The card isn't that powerful, but it should still be enough.

Oh so you do have the drivers. Thought it might be Windows's riddiculously stupid slowness and suckage when you don't have graphics drivers installed, its a PITA. I guess the P3 isn't up to snuff for iTunes, I know a friend with a 900 MHz Slot A Athlon that runs it just fine though...
Unless you're talking about the like 200 ms delay when you click on something, like Library, until the time its highlighted. I think that's cause of iTunes trying to look pretty even if it means being slow. Wish there was a way to make it just use the normal friggn Windows UI.
