In contest rules they always say "valid in the US and District of Comlumbia." I just found out that they have a higher minimum wage than the rest of the country, too. $7.25 soon for noobs and $8.55 for DC noobs.

Article One, Section Eight of the United States Constitution grants the U.S. Congress ultimate authority over Washington, D.C. The District of Columbia did not have an elected city government until the passage of the 1973 Home Rule Act...The mayor and council adopt a local budget, which must be approved by Congress.
the minimum wage is a farce.. it only impacts people who don't need a minimum wage that high to begin with... fun fact, if you make more money sitting on your ass than working a minimum wage job... you sit on your ass! which means the minimum wage is, in reality, whatever it takes to get the next lazy-ass off his couch. It's like $9.25 or some shit in my city.

Uhh, they never said it was foreign. They had to specify because "US" refers the "United States" and Washington DC is not a state. FWIW, many states set their own minimum wage higher than the Federal MW.
