So for some mysterious reason, the power cable running to my PSU started to melt and short. Yeah, it was a cheap POS that came with my case I guess (the cable, not the PSU).

At any rate, I took the rig apart, installed a new cable, and got things up and running. I started with 0 screws, now I have 7 extra. I guess I put the thing back together than the manufacturer did ;) :p

That only happens the first few times you disassemble/reassemble it. After that, it seems to come out even.

Four that mount the PSU, four more that hold the case sides on. Just what did you take apart?

The cable running TO your power supply unit? Wouldn't that be the one that plugs into the wall socket?? And isn't that one normally capable of simply being pulled from the psu, and replaced easily???

I used to have the problem. Then I started using Ice Cube Trays - you put the screws in the cubes in the order you take them out of the computer, then do the reverse to put it back together.

We have a specific term for it when working on an airplane.

Wow, that's an awesome idea! I think I have some small tackle box drawers that would work wonderfully for that.

i have an HTPC case, so removal was tricky. also, the cable that came with the case fused with the cable running to the wall socket :Q so i had to cut it with scissors

fear not, all is well :D
