Why is it that so many NEW mobos do not have more than 3 PCI slots?

Why is it that so many NEW mobos do not have more than 3 PCI slots? :|

I have been looking for a socket 939 (Dual Core capable) with 1394 but I have yet to find one with more than 3 PCI slots.

I want at least 4 PCI Slots because I am not ready to give up the following cards:
[1] SB Audigy
[2] Modem (for faxes)
[3] TV/FM capture card
[4] Wireless-G Network Card

i agree, i like PCI slots too.

this reminds me of Ahmed Rashmat, or whatever is the name of the Editor at Tom's Hardware. in one of his editorials he campaigned heavily for the abolition of all PCI slots.

personally, i like PCI slots. i would hate to give up the ability to drop in a PCI adaptec Ultra-Wide SCSI card or a PCI adaptec firewire card.

as far as "why 3" ... just thinking of my old sitting-on-the-shelf MB's that have 5 or 6 PCi slots and an AGP slot ... i guess some of the room previously allocated to PCI connectors is now used for PCI-express "mini-slots".

The Foxconn NF4UK8AA-8EKRS has 4 pci slots, firewire and with the updated BIOS it supports dual core but there seems to be a problem with the Foxconn site right now so I don't know much more than that.

It sounds like a problematic mobo though. I'd be a little leary of it until researched deeper.

Great board. Fast, stable, lots of OC options. Very nice looking board with good build quality.

One caveat - due to the way the RAM slots are set up on this board (Slot 1 & 2 and Slot 3 & 4 for Dual Channel) the RAM modules sit roght next to each other so they don't have a lot of breathing room. The good news is that if you are running something a fairly large HSF combo XP-90/SI-120 ect the RAM will get some active cooling.

Had one in my V1000 with the afore-mentioned XP-90 and SI-120 briefly before I went to the A8R32 MVP in my sig.

I miss those PCI slots too. With my SCSI and X-Fi cards I am out of 32-bit PCI slots, and if I go Crossfire I'll have to lose either my X-Fi or SCSI card - NOT!
