Why is it that rain always turns seemingly sensible people into total idiots..

I swear that you'd think it would be common sense to drop 10kmh and leave a fair bit bigger gap between you and the car in front when it's raining (epecially when it's just started and the road is greasy) but this obviously doesn't occur to about 98% of the drivers i see on the road...

It's not as bad as Canberra (where my folks live now) in Perth, but it's still amazing to watch, every single time it rains there are smashes on most of the major roads, rear-endings galore, and cars sliding off roundabouts 😛

Same in the US?

The problem I usually see is that people turn their emergency lights on and slow down 40 mph below the speed limit.

I'm on the motorbike the majority of the time and therefore I HAVE to slow down, be smoother, etc.

Diesel on roundabouts = Deadly
Spray from HGV's = Deadly
Moronic drivers = Deadly

Same in US, but all of the right lane slowbunnies now move to the left lane and hang there (that would be left lane slowbunnies for you).

BTW, Rain-X, polarized sunglasses, and good rubber are a must for the rain.

I agree! In atlanta people usually drop to 15 MPH in a 45 zone. braking for every little thing when its just drizzling.

Ironically, when its pouring rain, then some idiot always feels the need to prove to everyone how fast he can drive on super slick roads flying down the street going 80 MPH.

Its always one extreme or the other.

It seems everytime it rains in Greenville, NC (where the rents live) there is at least one accident on each major road. Ppl there are fvcking stupid, none of them can drive (go there and see what I mean).

The best is when someone gets in a wreck and the person driving slowly by is rubbernecking & hits the person in front of them, ROFL 😀

It was only 70 when I passed you.... 😉

Here in Nebraska, most people forget what to do when it rains or snows, which is odd since we get a decent amount of both.

😛 it's like "wow, its raining, i'll just tailgate and speed like i normally do, because i can't remember that last week when it rained, and ever other time it has rained for my whole life i've been driving, there are loads of accidents as people don't sensibly adapt their driving to the weather conditions"
*smash*
"OMG my daughter is paralysed, how on earth did i crash"

:|

I haven't been in Denver when it was raining, but I was there while it was snowing. I was pretty impressed at how everyone drove then. They didn't slow down unreasonably, and they didn't drive like normal. They drove in a manner appropriate for the conditions. It was really nice.

That is why I call it the "dumb juice" like you said when it rains it is like every one took a big dose of Dumb juice..

lol...almost true. 😀

lol, my jeep (2wd) can't take a downpoor near as well as most fwd cars. I have no choice but to drive 45 or slower when in my jeep otherwise my risk of hydroplaning is stupidly high....in my dodge dakota I can usually get by going ~60 without having any traction issues.

around here people drive in extremes, either they seem to drive faster when it rains, or the slow down to a crawl.

IIRC, you're in NE as well, it's a nice change to be out there when it's like that.

Yep, only for another month though. Then it's off to sunny Albuquerque! I want to end up in Denver or Colorado Springs eventually though...I love that area.

Edit: I remember a couple months ago it had just rained (or maybe snowed? could be either around here 😛) and I was driving back to UNO, and there was this huge pile-up around 72nd and Pacific. I was like...it's not even coming down now! What the hell is wrong with you people?
