why is it that people with no money always spend money they don't have!?

one of my uncles is always spending his money on the latest new gadget just to keep up with the jones'. yet him and my aunt have no savings and they always cry broke. so when my mom says to stop buying sh!t they don't need, they get mad. a coworker of mine is 60 K + in debt and all credit cards maxed out from taking fancy vacations and reckless spending; needless to say him and his wife don't own any property and drive a jalopy. his whole life revolves around how to make more money to pay off his debts--he can't enjoy life because he's rightfully obsessed in becoming debt-free. then there are some people i know, random people, who spend more than they earn yet complain they are broke and want to save money...these are the people who "need" designer everything...

when i was younger i got myself into some credit card debt a few times, which was around a thousand bux each time. by no means a lot of money, but for me it was because it's relative to what i was making at my part-time jobs. my mom also instills in me how important it is to be financially independent and so far i'm doing great. and like the next person i indulge in things every now and then but the difference here is that i can afford to do so; this is extra money for me which i've dogeared for spending.

slash rant. 😀

...CONSUME MASS QUANTITIES...CONSUME MASS QUANTITIES...CONSUME MASS QUANTITIES....

It 'oozes' from every poor of American society and culture. Instant gratification.

my recent credit card bill was for 225 dollars. not hard to pay off at all, i only spend when i actually have the money. thinking you'll buy it now, pay off later, always gets you into trouble.

Those that don't have it like to act like they do.

So true...

I see people having nice bimmers and they live in shabby apartments. pathetic...

My mother instilled her frugal-ness in me...I like living well and having nice things, but I never buy full price/retail, and never get into credit card debt that I can't pay off...I've had a CC for a few years now, but only this year have I actually had to make significant payments on...I've just always spent the cash I had, instead of the cash I don't have and "worry about it later"...

That being said, my family's always supported me rather nicely and I've been pretty lucky with money, so I probably don't have it as hard as others.

I admit I'm an addict to retail therapy. My parents are very frugal so it didn't come from them (my uncle is a spendthrift though). I'm glad eBay is around though, otherwise I would have no way to unload all my frivolous purchases.

Maybe they just enjoy driving more than spending money on an expensive apartment? We all have areas where we like to indulge and will let other areas suffer a bit because of the enjoyment we get from the other, be it cars, computers, dwelling, etc.

I think after a while it has to just seem hopeless and they just "go for broke" since they feel like they're already so far into the hole they have nothing left to loose. I think buying is also an addiction for some people, like drugs, alcohol, food, etc.

Poeple like that are pretty sad...I know a few of them...

I guess they just don't have any self control or common sense...

Not much you can do, just be prepared to pay for their retirement through social security!

I think the average american has a ridiculous amount of credit card debt. If they go bankrupt, they get what they deserve.

I am a healthy consumer😉 however i am very cheap. This summer my girlfriend and I are going on vacation and are staying at a 5 star hotel. We got a huge suite including fireplace for $129/ night 😀. I'm all for living well and being cheap!

The type of person that amazes me is the one that thinks the only way to get large amounts of money is through the gimmick. You could hand them $10,000 and instead of paying off their $8,000 debt they would try to gamble it or get into some get rich quick scheme. Then they are back where they started. If people would funnel as much ambition into improving themselves and their careers as they do these schemes, they would have made the money.

I always wonder the same thing. In my neighborhood, I see so many MBs, BMWs and Lexus yet I don't know how these middle/lower class people can afford it. I personally know a few families with MBs that can barely afford to pay for them.
