As for the original question, it's quite simple.

A lot of women dont respect themselves.

So we had a conversation about how there aren't many guys that respect women as much as they should, then a few minutes later, one of the girls from another department came up to us and said that one of the janitors just grabbed her ass twice... I was pissed, and I would have gone after the guy, but then I realized that he could get in a lot of trouble, so I told her to tell the manager and get him fired. Why don't some men respect women? It really really pisses me off that they don't.

A guy grabbing his girlfriend is disrespectful? My girlfriend and I grab each other all the time without warning or permission. It's called fun. A lot of you need to have some.

i have a question though.

is it sexual harassment when a girl fondles a guy?

i used to work at a fast food place in High School. And this girl (she was pretty attractive but not hot) used to grab my ass and put her hands around my waist. i tried to avoid her but she thought i wanted it. i laughed it off because i didn't want to look like a pu55y, but i was not attracted to her (she even had a boyfriend at the time). In retrospect, I didn't feel very comfortable. I think I should have done something, but what can a guy do?

It is unwarranted, and it qualifies as sexual harassment. I would've made it clear that I was uncomfortable, and if she continued doing it, I would've reported her to my higher ups.

you're right. but damn that would have been embarrasing, and when you're 16 and full of male ego, it just makes it that much more difficult (considering word would have gotten back to HS that i'm a pu55y). In any case, in a weird way, it doesn't bother me as much as it would have probably bothered a girl had the roles been reversed. its kind of like being a guy, we are expected to be the ones to do that stuff, and when it gets switched on us, it gets a bit confusing.

Reminds me of the plot of Disclosure... it's an enigmatic and frustrating double standard.

I saw an orgy the other day. There were beautidul women 69'ing on the footstool-esque coffee table, and gorgeous women all around being playful.

I then realized... girls rock!

But I'm still a prick, it's what gets them.

Your question presumes there was a time when men respected women. The question is whether or not that presumption is correct.

But it is true that women do not "make" guys respect them as much. 'Make' is probably not the right choice of words, you can't 'make' anyone do anything. More like elicit or evoke a desired response from others. Not much different than how a police officer's demeanor AND appearance (uniform) can elicit or evoke respect from others.

Have respect for yourself and others will have respect for you. Of course, that isn't perfect, there are always those who are going to hold preconceived notions of the way people should be treated as a class or group. But many many others, probably most people, 'feed' from that outward appearance and those 'signals' a person gives off; body language, dress, demeanor, articulateness, etc.

Women's 'lib' has come with uintended consequences. A lot more women are using their new 'freedom' to dress and behave like trashy sluts, and guess what...they're responded to accordingly. I'm continually appauled at how MOTHERS allow their 13 and 14 year old daughters to dress in public.

I'm not saying its right or wrong, I'm saying its the reality. Should women be able to go out in public wearing only a couple peanut shells and rubber bands and be treated with the same respect as a woman who dresses in a more respectable manner? In a perfect world, probably, yes.

Similarly, I should be able to walk down the street of any gang-infested inner city neighborhood at any time of the day or night without the risk of being shot or beaten or stabbed to death. But guess what, I'm not going to thumb my nose at reality just so I can demonstrate my belief in some 'lofty' ideal.

Possibly one of the best posts I've seen on the subject.

I doubt its any worse these days than it got in the 1980's, or 1970's before that, or 1960's...

In regards to the guy grabbing his girlfriends ass in the bar... maybe that is THEIR thing not just HIM being a pig (you didn't state if the girlfriend was upset or not). There is such a thing as a woman who does enjoy that kind of thing. Does a woman in a bar that grabs a guy ass get you riled up too? I see that more often than guys grabbing the women to be honest with you.

The Janitor should be fired. Anyone that touches a stranger like that should have charges brought up against them... Also, I think the Janitor is not the rule, he's the exception.

In my opinion... Many (not all) Guys don't respect women for a few reasons. 1. They weren't brought up to behave that way. It is a by-product of a single parent home AND the "Me First" mentality. Kids need both parents in a stable home so they can see how a man treats a woman (dad treats mom). I remember to this day when my dad told me if I ever hit a woman I should expect to be hit by him. That is probably one of my earliest memories. That with his constant positive role model behaviour taught me how to treat a woman. My 2 year old son will get the same speech and example. 2. Many women don't want to be respected as a woman. I have had my head bitten off numerous times for opening/holding doors for women. It pisses me off but I wont stop. For every 1 that is a bitch about it, I hope that the other 100 appreciate it. The funny thing is, I will also hold the door for guys and I have yet to have 1 guy get upset. Most actually nod their head and say thanks. I find it rude for Male or Female to not hold the door open for someone a few steps behind them.

I'll tell you something though, if anyone ever did that to someone i cared about, they'd better watch out for a swinging machete.

I agree, it's because of Pr0n. Just look at those videos, men spend all their time dominating what's going on, and women most of the time just submit to it and pretend they're enjoying it. If my wife and I ever run across a porno, we look at it, and are like "How fake is that, there's no way she's enjoying that". I mean come on, most of the nerve endings are in the ... um ... nevermind, most of you will learn in 11th grade. ;)
