Why is it that Game consoles break the pricing behavior of computers

I'd say because of the demographic they target and the size of the said market.
Edit: It also has to do with the existance of about eleventy billion computer (and computer parts) manufacturers. For consoles, there are basically 3.

That's really not a fair comparison.
Compare the prices of modern video cards to game consoles.
GPU's have become more & more complex (long since exceeding CPU transistor counts), & outfitted with fast, dense memory.
Keep in mind that that next generation consoles will support in game rendering at HD resolutions, a PC capable of that costs a lot more than $400.

And now a days, whe nthe XBox 360 comes out, it's going to be more than a gaming console.
No that would be ED.
All the next gen consoles will support 720P/1080i and likely even 1080P.
Viper GTS
The Xbox 360 can be bought stripped down for $299 but I have no problem paying $399 to be one of the first to get it considering the hardware specs. It will be faster than my PC and cost a heck of a lot less. If they do it right and make the DVD player upconvert to 720P/1080i then you just saved yourself $100+ on a new DVD player too.
you don't know what you are talking about. go convert how much the atari, nintendo, etc cost when adjusted for inflation.
I've never spent more than $100 on a console. As with computer parts, if you don't mind being behind the bleeding edge, you save a bundle.

Same, only at the $150 mark. I'm not sure I've ever bought a PC component or console that cost more than that.
Look how much new cpu's and video cards cost when they first come out.
Same thing for consoles.
Give it time and it will go down like computers do.

Adjust the prices of previous game consoles at release for inflation and it tells a different story, the prices of consoles and games are going down.
However, when you think about it, an A-list game these days takes millions of dollars to produce not like back in the day when a small team of programmers could knock out a decent game in a few months. But in the same breath you have to mention that the market is much larger too.
