Why is it that Apple always inovates, but can never get it into the endzone?

I'm sure many of you will probably disagree, but they seem to bring about a lot of inovative ideas while never really seeming to successfully market it themselves.

Any ideas?

I really like their new laptop design, with the wide screen and titanium case, but the only problem is that it's a Mac. The wide screen is extra sweet though!!!

How short memory is. What do you mean never make it to the endzone. I would say that Apple has scored several times. And the fact that they alone are an alternative to Intel/MS is a score of its own. Apple scores: The Apple II , lets face this was the start of the modern PC as we know it today. Apple opened the market then IBM/MS exploited it. You don't think that the Mac is a sccore? It must be or there wouldn't be the on going battle between Intel/MS lovers and the Mac.

The fact that Apple has survived is a statement about the quality of their machines and OS. Just because you can't afford a Mac doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of people out there who can.

Well you can always load PPC Linux or Yellow Dog Linux on it. Or even PPC BeOS 5 or IBM AIX, if you are willing to hack up a set of chipset drivers for Apple's propietry chipset (or reverse engineer Apple's Mac G4 chipset drivers).

Anyway Apple's Mac/Next hybrid Mac OSX is here now, & with its BSD guts makes W2K look purelly pedestrian.

Amen Ross. 😎

The Nocturnal Child drools at the new Powerbook & the 733MHz G4.
But then I realize I'm just a college kid and probably won't be able to afford either one for quite a while. 😉

Sure Apple innovates, with looks. That's about it. A blue case only goes so far. The MacOS is so far behind even Windows that it is not funny. The Mac cultists will have you think that OSX will be the savior of the platform. I think not.

Have you even used it yet?? Multitasking in it...sucks.

The one button mouse, a step in the right direction.......for those of us with just one finger. I have just one finger for apple too 🙂

Apple's innovation = stealing.

The iMac is about the first original idea they've ever had, and that's not saying much.

uh...where have you been the last 16 years??
1. my 8 year old performa had a scsi built in. my new dell didnt even bring one. talk about cheap (well not an inovation, just wanted to bitch)
2. standard for graphics and multimedia
3. leaps and bounds in education sales (yes we know why, but if its so sad, then why cant anyone take over?? kind of like saying yeah, well do somehting about it then)
4. the trash can idea (i know simultaneous with the shredder)
5. i had 3 more but windows crashed on me. let me write them again. lets not even start on how windows copies everything.
6. Mhz on pcs and mac arent exactly related. g4s spank em. mac hardware might be behind as far as 3rd party, but macos has always been userfriendly. thats what sells. not some bloated bsod filled win. finally people noticed this with WINME. not that i buy micrcrap anyways.
7. mac cultists?? macs made hotline. for that i am thankful🙂

soo they have 733mhz g4's now? hmmm meybe i won't go intel on my next upgrade (yeah fricking right) but if IRS is nice, meybey

SCSI is too expensive for low-cost PCs. Most Macs pack IDE drives now too.

<< 2. standard for graphics and multimedia >>

At one point this was true, nowadays Photoshop and all the other tools are available on the PC. I admit most graphic designers use a Mac.

<< 3. leaps and bounds in education sales (yes we know why, but if its so sad, then why cant anyone take over?? kind of like saying yeah, well do somehting about it then) >>

Totally not true anymore. Mac has lot the education market to cheap PCs (Gateway and Dell).

<< 4. the trash can idea (i know simultaneous with the shredder) >>

And it was abused. How does throwing a disk in the trash eject it? Ok, I will give them the general trash can concept, but you have to do better than than in a thread about innovation.

<< 5. i had 3 more but windows crashed on me. let me write them again. lets not even start on how windows copies everything. >>

They guy I work with swears by his new G4. It crashed 5 times on him yesterday, complete lockup. My copy of Win2k, which I do not consider the standard of stability, has never crashed to the point where I had to physically reset the computer.

In floating point calcuations maybe. In everyday apps Mhz vs. Mhz matters. That's why Steve Jobs is always using Photoshop in an attempt to prove that Apples are faster than PCs. Let's try benching Q3A on a PC vs a Mac.

Mac users are a dying breed. I have a bunch of them at my job. We have deprecated the Mac, in other words, we are not buying anymore. It's fun to watch them bitch and say that they will quit when there are no more Macs here. This is happening all over the place. Eventually, they will run out of places to find jobs.

I think you are talking about Mac 'Classic' (OS9 & earlier), Loogie.

MacOSX is BSD Unix based (well originally).
